The Plastics Pipe Institute 2024 Project of the Year Award for the Power & Communications Division was awarded to Dura-Line for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Micro-Trenching Project during the PPI 2025 Annual meeting in Indian Wells, CA.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), in partnership with private commercial fiber users, installed 500 miles of FuturePath 8-way 16/12 MicroDucts via MicroTrenching in the road shoulder along the PA Turnpike. MicroTrenching and MicroTechnology were two key enablers of this project's scale and scope: with the savings in time and labor, the PTC has built out the network without compromising any aspect of their ambitions, and even opened commercial avenues that will help fund the broader project and bridge the digital divide.

The project not only utilizes the existing right-of-way for the PTC to deliver connectivity to various devices for automated tolling, highway monitoring, and traffic management but also leaves room among the 8 pathways for private sector partners to install additional fiber to help provide broadband to underserved communities among other possible applications. The efficiency and scalability of MircoTechnology products will serve Pennsylvania well for many maintenance-free decades, supporting Dig-Once principles, and providing value both to the Turnpike Authority and communities along its path.
